Mulatu Astatke (born 1943 in the city of Jimma) is an Ethiopian musician and arranger best known as the father of Ethio-jazz.
His early highly notable works are sampled through all modern genres (Damian Marley, Kayne West, Cut Chemist,,,,,), in 2008 he started a collaboration with the London-based psyche-jazz collective the Heliocentrics on the album Inspiration Information Vol. 3, which included re-workings of his earlier Ethio-jazz classics with new material by the Heliocentrics and himself.
